The only tools you need in year one

A list, a CRM you already have, a one-pager template, and the public APIs of your first partners. Not a PRM.

Written lesson. Do the exercises in order. Put the artifact in your hiring packet.

Aspiring partner managers buy software to feel ready. You do not need a partner relationship management suite to start.

Year-one stack

  • The book. A table: partner, workflow, owner, next step, status (watch / active / shipped / killed).
  • The CRM you already have. One partner object or a few fields. Deal registration can be a dropdown.
  • Writing. One-pager, recap, QBR slide. Google Doc is enough.
  • The partner’s public docs. Read them before the first call. Use the directory to find them.
  • A shared inbox or Slack channel for each live partner, with two people on each side.

That is the stack.

Add later

A PRM when you have dozens of partners who need a login. A marketplace of your own when you are the platform. Crossbeam-style account mapping when co-sell volume justifies it.

Practice with public tools

Use PartnerMatch’s free tools while you learn: partner fit, GTM picker, joint value proposition, revenue-share calculator, ROI. They are the worksheets. The academy lessons are the class.

The writing plus a filled artifact is the course.
