Year one with almost no budget

You need a list, writing, and a slice of engineering. You do not need a summit, a PRM, or a booth.

Written lesson. Do the exercises in order. Put the artifact in your hiring packet.

New partner managers ask for a partner summit, a portal, and Crossbeam in month two. None of that is the constraint. Engineering time and a clean book are the constraint.

Spend nothing on

Events as a strategy. Swag. A PRM. A custom partner portal. An agency to “get you listed.” A category sponsorship so your logo sits next to twenty others.

Spend the CEO’s political capital on

A written engineering window. Access to sales and CS notes. Permission to sunset. A CRM dropdown. That is the budget that matters.

What the work costs

Your time. A few paid marketplace listing fees if the platform charges them (model that, do not get surprised). Maybe a sandbox seat. Maybe a legal hour for the first MSA. That is a real year-one stack.

How you look busy without hiding

A monthly five-line note. A public kill list. One ship. People who need theatre will still want a booth. Show them active connections. If that is not enough, you are in a company that wanted a mascot.

When money does help

A SPIFF after a motion exists. A featured marketplace slot after the app retains. Mapping software after co-sell volume is real. Buy the thing that removes a bottleneck you can name, not the thing that looks like a partnerships department.

The academy is built for this constraint. Read, write the artifact, run the loop. The work does not wait for a production budget.
